SPORTS PERSONS HAVE HIGHER CHANCES OF SELECTION IN SSB?

SPORTS HELP DEVELOP OUR PERSONALITY IN VARIOUS WAYS
It is apparently well understood by the page visitors that sports help inculcate several qualities in an individual. Thus sports- persons will have an edge over non sports- persons in all spheres of life, including SSB selection.

NON SPORTS- PERSONS MAY HAVE DEVELOPED VARIOUS OTHER QUALITIES
Non sports-persons through their experiences may have developed themselves in different ways. Please read the story of the “Dharawi Slum Officer” given in an earlier post. This person had never played any sport, but his sense of responsibility, maturity, will power & determination was way above that of his peers. In so many ways he was a better potential officer material than an all round good sportsperson of his age.

GENERAL NON SPORTS-PERSONS
There is a large group of SSB aspirants who had the opportunity to play sports or develop some hobbies, but never availed those, because they found it difficult to cope up with the academic routine, or were just lacked energy, or were lazy. Such individuals will generally be found to be overall lower in rating than sports-persons in most spheres of life, including SSB.

WHAT SHOULD A NON SPORTSPERSON SSB ASPIRANT DO?
For a graduate, or an engineer, it is rather late to start learning sports, or developing hobbies. In any case, attempts to learn team sports & develop hobbies to impress the assessors in SSB (quite a few aspirants attempt to do so) is laughable & an exercise in futility.
It would be prudent to focus on improving fitness, through activities like exercising, running, swimming, &cycling. These activities are sports in themselves. They are not affected by constraints of team & time & easy to develop into healthy, lifelong hobbies! Apart from being a tool to improve fitness, these activities also help improve discipline, will power & determination!
