1996 – फ़िलिस्तीनी मुक्ति संगठन के नेता यासर अराफात को गाजा में फ़िलिस्तीन के प्रथम राष्ट्रपति के रूप में शपथ दिलाई गई।
1998 – अमेरिकी कंपनी राइसटेक को बासमती चावल का पेटेंट सं.रा. अमेरिका द्वारा प्रदत्त।

-अमेरिका में हाइड एक्ट के सह लेखक टॉम लेंटास का निधन। अंतरिक्ष केन्द्र पर पहला यूरोपीय लैब स्थापित किया गया। पूर्वी तिमोर में राष्ट्रपति व प्रधानमंत्री पर हमले के बाद प्रधानमंत्री जाना जुस्माओ ने आपातकाल की घोषणा की।
2009 – भारत के वैज्ञानिकों ने विश्व का पहला भैंस क्लोन विकसित किया। प्रसिद्ध अर्थशास्त्री अमर्त्य सेन को कैंम्ब्रिज विश्वविद्यालय ने डीलिट् की उपाधि से सम्मानित करने की घोषणा की।
2010 – हरिद्वार महाकुंभ में सात अखाड़ों के क़रीब पचास हज़ार सन्न्यासियों और विभिन्न अखाड़ों के लगभग चार हज़ार नागा अवधूतों सहित लगभग 55 लाख श्रद्धालुओं ने पहले शाही स्नान पर गंगा में डुबकी लगाई।
2013 – उत्तर कोरिया ने तीसरा भूमिगत परमाणु परीक्षण किया।
